Synopsis

Ah Fei sells frogs from his motorbike, while his father, Ah Kan, is part of a dying breed of fishermen in an old coastal village. They share a quiet, but strong relationship. The film follows these two characters as one of them faces death, while the other is only becoming a man.

Woo Ming Jin is one of the leading voices of the Malaysian New Wave and has had his films screened in Cannes, Berlin and Venice. His first film Monday Morning Glory (2005) screened at the Berlin International Film Festival, while his second, Elephant and the Sea (2007), won awards in Torino, Cinema Digital Seoul, Portugal and Spain film festivals. Woman on Fire Looks for Water (2009) premiered at the Venice International Film Festival, while Tiger Factory (2010), premiered at the Cannes Film Festival. It won the Special Jury Mention at the Tokyo Film Festival in 2010. His latest film, Stone Turtle (2022), played in Main Competition at the Locarno International Film Festival and won the Fipresci Prize (International Critics Prize). The film was hailed by Variety as ‘Stunning mystery that puts a supernatural twists on real world trauma…’ (Peter Debruge).
