Speaker: Christine Hakim

Christine Hakim is a renowned Indonesian actress, producer, and activist, celebrated as the “grande dame of Indonesian cinema.” Born on December 25, 1956, she gained prominence with her role in the 1973 film “Cinta Pertama,” which earned her a Citra Award for Best Actress. Notable works include “Badai Pasti Berlalu” (1977), “Tjoet Nja’ Dhien” (1988), and “Pasir Berbisik” (1998). She also appeared in the Hollywood film “Eat Pray Love” with Julia Roberts. Christine is a UNESCO goodwill ambassador, focusing on education and autism awareness.

Guest Speaker: Garin Nugroho

Growing up, his love for storytelling was influenced by his father’s passion for writing. He studied filmmaking at the Jakarta Institute of Arts and law and politics at the University of Indonesia. Nugroho’s debut film, “Cinta dalam Sepotong Roti” (1991), won Best Film at the Indonesian Film Festival. After his mother’s death in 2005, he focused on Javanese culture, creating “Opera Jawa” for Austria’s 250th Mozart anniversary. In 2007, he founded LA Indie Movie, and in 2008, adapted “Opera Jawa” into the theatre play “The Iron Bed,” showcased in Zurich. Nugroho’s work spans documentaries, short films, and theatrical productions, highlighting his diverse talent and dedication to Indonesian culture

Bront Palarae, is a Malaysian actor, film director, screenwriter and producer. Bront built his career in the early 2001 with roles in Castello, Bilut, Tipah Tertipu The Movie & 1957: Hati Malaya. His collaboration with director Mamat Khalid resulted in the films Man Laksa (2006) & Kala Malam Bulan Mengambang (2008). They also co-wrote the script together for Tipah Tertipu The Movie (2006).
